Baby S Update – Week 30

Week 30!

I can’t even believe it. As I pace around the house, cleaning out closets, vacuuming floors, cooking up a storm……J asks me “do you want me to grab some twigs for you at the store so you can build your nest?” Yes, I think the nesting has begun.

Week 24 and Week 28
As you can see, I officially have a “baby bump.” We took advantage of this while on our “babymoon” to Playa del Carmen and had some professional bump pics taken. We are a sucker for good photography so couldn’t resist.
The baby moves a bunch and situates its self in weird position, like this morning at week 28 where it seemed to borough its whole body below my belly button.
J and I love feeling movements and try to guess if it’s a foot, head, butt, or back.

7 Months
J and I wanted to capture this very special time of our lives through beautiful photography.
I am so thankful to be pregnant and I feel fabulous. I never thought having a tummy this big would make me so proud. I have enjoyed keeping healthy while expecting and therefore wanted to celebrate it.
The body is a magnificent thing God has blessed us with….he gave us one and only one.

Notre Dame

Coach Mike, Coach, Kelli, and I received our crossfit endurance certifications this weekend!
Check out www.crossfitdesmoines.com or Crossfit Endruance for more info (the pic is from HyVee tri!). Excited share what I learned with my track girls, endurance junkie friends, and DSM crossfitters.

Notre Dame

For Mike and Kelli’s 1st Anniversary, Kelli surprised Mike (longtime Notre Dame fan) with tickets to the game on October 30th…..(for those who didn’t know, paper is the 1st anniversary gift).

J and I tagged along for the ride as we had never been to South Bend and were looking forward to a football weekend there.
Mike (brother-in-law) and Kelli (sister)
the night before we left we watched Rudy which made seeing famous sights like “Touchdown Jesus” even more memorable
Very cool cancer memorial. Each colored ribbon is for a different type of cancer.
I failed to take any dining pictures except for this funny experience at a local pub….
we managed to break our table and chair while there. It wasn’t our fault though and got a free round of drinks!
Our table literally collapse from under us….
you’ll see on the picture that the table top should be about 2 feet off the barrel…ha

the campus is absolutely beautiful with the stadium smack dab in the middle

that’s real gold up there…kinda like their football helmets

the Grotto, lit up with prayer requests

look at this campus!!!

we watched the players and coaches head into church service

Go Irish!

Good times with good people!
Sorry this wasn’t a very (well really not at all) food related post, but had to share.
Until next time…

Glacier National Park, Yellowstone & Grand Tetons

Cabin life is a good life….

Vacation began as Mom, Dad, Matt (brother), J and I drove the 5 hours from Coeur D’Alene, Idaho to Glacier National Park in Montana.
Dad scored this fantastic cabin for the 4 days we would spend exploring the park.
It was very easy to kick back and relax, make good food, and play cards.

our yard looked like it was part of the park…tons of wildlife spotted right from our porch…turtles, deer, skunk, elk, ground hogs, humming birds
of course Mom took off with her camera at the first site of a deer
we all came down to breakfast wearing our Crossfit Des Moines shirts…how cute

Glacier National Park
we enjoyed 4 hikes totaling 20 miles

the water was mesmerizing…so violent yet so peaceful

Hidden Lake Hike
3 miles on slippery, wet snow, but a fantastic place to get up close and personal with the mountain goats

Virginia Falls Hike
a surprising and refreshing shower awaits you at the end…in fact the falls was so large and spraying so much water we couldn’t get a picture

Avalanche Lake Hike
a beautiful aqua lake with 4 water falls plunging into the icy water awaits you

the trail was also home to a 500 year old forest….another words some very large vegetation

the lake made a great place for lunch and a quick nap….I kept one eye open for bears 🙂

Iceberg Lake Hike
the longest of the hikes, 9 miles
offered amazing views and a grizzly sighting…a sow and her three cubs!

at one time this lake had glacier on it, now just ice sheets
in fact, they estimate that by 2030 all the glaciers in the park will be gone 🙁
Yellowstone National Park
a quick pass through Yellowstone on the drive back to Iowa

huh, I was expecting more out of the Lodgehole Pine…I don’t know, maybe a few more needles
and of course we saw Old Faithful
Grand Tetons
Wildlife

these guys about crashed our lunch at Hidden Lake

this guy is seriously working the camera

we did see a grizzly and her three cubs as mentioned earlier
we also saw a black bear while overnighting it in Big Sky

oh my…this is a bear paw!?

Moose!….oh wait that’s just me

There’s the moose! Seen on the hike to Iceberg Lake

“Lady Elk” as she’s known at our cabin
Bambi!

humming birds
and bison
to come…what would my vacation be without highlighting the food, we each picked a night at the cabin and made a gourmet meal.
Until next time…

Ironman Coeur D’Alene 2010

After 9 months of training….Ironman Coeur D’Alene finally arrived.
J and his friend Geoff both successfully finished with arms raised high.
I am so proud of both….it takes so much dedication, determination, and physical and mental strength to not only compete in an Ironman but to train for one. Well done!

Here’s a bit about our time in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho…

the boys practiced in the fridged but beautiful waters of Lake Coeur D’Alene (water was in the 50s)

While the boys practiced….Geoff’s family, Mom and Dad and I took a short hike on Tubb’s Hill

Geoff’s kids (Janie and Will)

The Food
Fisherman’s Market

Will and Janie like their edamame, sushi, and seaweed salad…so impressed with their palates

Pilgrim’s Market

we stopped for lunch and some local foods

what is a Yak you ask….

that is a Yak….mmmm

granola made in neighboring Spokane

local preserves and jams…huckleberry and cherry

I LOVE bin sections!!!
J says I get more excited about grocery stores than clothes stores…..I must agree

Ciao Mambo’s for some carbo-loading

Janie and the tour of Nachos all’ Italiana

Tootsie Rolls…paper thin whole egg wrappers stuffed with fresh ricotta
cheese, mozzarella and homemade pesto

my dish: Sun Dried Tomato and Broccoli Penne
Pasta Raveenabowtie pasta, grilled chicken, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and mushrooms in a roasted garlic cream sauce

Gnocchi con Carne & Lasagna with sauteed spinach

Hudsons Hamburgers

quit possibly one of the best “burger joint” burgers I have ever had

seriously Dad, a double patty

The Race
all ready to be an IronFan

2.4 mile swim
and they’re off…
the swim looked like the spin cycle of a wash machine
112 mile bike
I got so excited to see J on the course…

J and Geoff were happy to see some familiar faces on the course

Mom and Dad cheering along the triathletes
it can be a tiresome day for spectators too 🙂

26.2 mile run aka a marathon

Geoff stopping to give some love to his family

the finish line in sight
The finish
as the announcer says as each person crossed the finish line…
Jeremy Schwertfeger, “You are an ironman!”
One happy man…Ironman that is.
Congratulating my 2x Ironman!
getting a pat on the back from his sister, Amy

to come… pictures form the rest of vacation…Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, & Grand Tetons

we ate good food, hiked wonderful trails, and saw lots of wild animals!
ps…we love our new camera!
